Do Loco Pilots normally run on fixed route?

Do Loco Pilots normally run on fixed routes ?

It is an unique question arise when we see the loco pilot driving a train.

Stay with me, I will explain the whole in simple words so that you can easily understand the system.

Crew Points.

Every division of Indian Railway has it’s two, three or more crew(Loco Pilot, Assistant Loco Pilot) posting points.

The number of crew posting points depends on division route length and it’s an operational system.

All the crew of a division divides into those crew points.

Every crew points have its own jurisdiction of train driving.

\This jurisdiction is different for different category of trains. Such as freight, EMU or MEMU, passengers and mail/exp.

Example

If we take an example of Howrah division, there are mainly two crew points are in operations. Howrah and Burdwan.

Howrah posted crews operate all the passenger's train that includes., EMU, mail/exp.

Burdwan posted crews mainly operate the freights trains.

Howrah crews working up to DHN(Dhanbad) and PNBE(Patna), for mail/exp.

EMU trains run in shorter distances.

Loco pilot posted at Howrah can called for DHN route trains and also for PNBE route trans.

So when they called for DHN oriented trains, they run on DHN route. When they called for PNBE oriented trains they run on PNBE route.

EMU trains have more than five routes starting from HOWRAH.

On the same system as above when they called for different routes, they run of different routes.

Freights Trains

Freights trains of Burdwan also have five different routes.

Crews posted at Burdwan also have to drive his train in different routes as per their duty bookings.
